Meritorious students felicitated in city

SHILLONG: As many as 266 meritorious students including six differently abled ones were conferred with the 11th Literay Award in recognition of their outstanding performance in various board and university examinations during a function organized by Raid Laban Sports, Social and Cultural Organisation (RLSSCO) at U Soso Tham Auditorium here on Saturday.

The literary award was conceptualized by Deputy Speaker and South Shillong legislator, Sanbor Shullai.

Shullai informed that he spends around Rs 8 lakh every year for this award ceremony from his MLA-MDC salaries.

“We have constituted this award to encourage our youth to pursue and excel in their studies,” said the Deputy Speaker who especially expressed happiness over the success of the differently abled students.

The award ceremony was organized to felicitate meritorious students who have excelled in the SSLC, HSSLC, CBSE, ICSE, ISC, Degree and University examinations. Laptops were also presented to 14 students who topped the different examinations in 2014.

During the award ceremony, two national awardees – E Marbaniang from Upper Lumparing and Rita Ghosh of Rilbong– were also felicitated.

Director of the Sikkim Manipal University – Shillong Centre, G Jain was the chief guest on the occasion.
