SHILLONG: Deputy Chief Minister, Rowell Lyngdoh on Saturday inaugurated Rs 2 crore tourist hubs at Dympep and Arwah Lum Shynna localities in Sohra (Cherrapunjee) in East Khasi Hills.
The tourist hubs were created to provide comforts and attract tourists to the world’s wettest place
The Dympep tourist hub will help the tourists for short time relaxation during their journey. The Arwah Lumshynna tourist hub will enable the tourists to have a glimpse of the scenic beauty, cascading water falls, ancient rocks similar to the grand Canyons, precipices, caves and recreation parks for Children. The hubs have been created as one of the components of Cherrapunjee Ecological Project Restoration of Degradation Lands under Sohra (Cherrapunjee) Plateau to attract tourists and generate economic activities for the local people.
Inaugurating the Arwah Lum Shynna tourist hub located at Pdeng Shnong, about 45 Kms from here, Lyngdoh encouraged the gathering to take up tourism as an alternative source of employment and improvement of the economy of the community Lyngdoh who also holds the Soil and Water Conservation portfolio said the state should emulate from those countries which have become very rich after taking up tourism as an industry.
He suggested that Meghalaya could be a big tourist destination for domestic and foreign tourists by promoting Sohra brand (Cherrapunjee) as the world’s wettest place. “Tourists need security and courtesy when they visit our places. We should not be rude to them because when they go back they will tell only the positive things about us”, Lyngdoh added.
Speaking on the occasion, PWD Minister, S. Dhar expressed gratitude to the Soil and Water Conservation Department for the hard work in the successful implementation of the tourist hubs in Sohra and also assured that the 2.5 Km road of Arwah Lumshynna would be sanctioned for black topping in the next financial year.
