SHILLONG: Headmistress of Hill Crest Hr. Sec. School, EC. Pariat has clarified that the youth who was arrested from the school in relation to the theft of a laptop and digital camera, was a labourer working in the school vicinity and not a staff or student.

“The labourer was hired on contract for the ongoing work and the school has no direct connection with the person concerned,” the principal said in a statement on Sunday.

The youth had stolen the items belonging to one Phirap Surong from the Hostel of St. Thomas Higher Secondary School at Rynjah, according to police.
