SHILLONG: The State Health and Family Welfare department has made a wasteful expenditure of Rs.10 lakh on construction of a Sub Health Centre (SHC) at Lad Mawreng, East Khasi Hills since the department was yet to take over the building despite its completion way back in 1994.

It is learnt that the land owner, one Sistar Rapsang, has been occupying the building for nearly 20 years now.

“This gives the impression that the Government has constructed the building for the land owner,” the Joint Action Committee (JAC) comprising of the FKJGP and KSU Upper Shillong Circle stated in a representation submitted to Health and Family Welfare Minister A.L. Hek here on Tuesday.

KSU Upper Shillong unit president Lewis Nongneng stated in the representation that the health centre was constructed with the intention to help residents of nine adjoining villages in the area.

“We urge upon the department to take over the building and make the health centre operational at the earliest,” Nongneng said.

He also revealed that the land owner (Rapsang) has given the building on rent.
