Phensedyl worth Rs 23 lakh seized in State

SHILLONG: Over 24, 000 bottles of Phensedyl Cough Linctus worth Rs 23 lakh were seized from a truck (NL 02L 6024) near Dinegpassoh village during a checking conducted by the Custom officials on Wednesday. After receiving inputs about movement of the vehicle carrying these banned cough syrups, the Customs sleuths immediately laid a trap. During the checking, the truck was stopped and a huge cache of Phensedyl, concealed under rice bags, was seized, a senior custom official informed. The official said that the truck was carrying 257 bags of rice which had 81 cartons of the banned cough syrup hidden well inside them (rice bags). The driver of the truck has been arrested.
