Rape cases galore in State

SHILLONG: Cases of rapes and sexual assault on women and minors has become the order of the day in Meghalaya with several such cases being reported on a daily basis.

On October 30 at about 10.30 pm, one Sender Kharbani (27) allegedly raped a 22-year-old girl at Dewsawlia, Dangar in East Khasi Hills. Police arrested the accused and investigation was on in the matter. In another incident, one Donbok Shylla allegedly attempted to rape his seven-year-old daughter at their residence at Ummulong village in West Jaintia Hills on October 29. A police complaint in this regard was lodged at Jowai PS.

In yet another case, one Renbing Sangma forcibly took a 16-year-old girl on a motorcycle to Rimrangpara Alagre in West Garo Hills and allegedly raped her on October 22.

A complaint was lodged in this regard at Tura PS.
