TURA: The United A’chik Liberation Army (UALA) has threatened to effect a complete shutdown of the entire Garo Hills if the Meghalaya Government continues to remain unresponsive to its offer of peace talks.

Castigating the government for failing to respond to its offer for peace earlier this year on June 2, the outfit claimed that the government was playing a ‘bloody game’ with its innocent cadres and randomly putting the blame on them for all kinds of kidnappings, demands and extortion cases in Garo Hills. It claimed that the recent arrest of two persons, Selbith and Barnius from near the GHADC Office in Tura was one such case of the police targeting the outfit.

“Both of them were innocent other than that they were related to our Chairman. There was no recovery of any demand notes or other incriminating items from their possession. It is merely the government’s strategy to tarnish our image and make innocent people suffer,” the Political Affairs Secretary of the outfit, Rngdat Garo said in a statement.
