Central team to assess GH flood damages

SHILLONG: A Central government team will visit the State to assess the devastation caused by the recent flood and landslides in Garo Hills.

Informing this here on Monday, Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Revenue and Disaster Management Department Prof RC Laloo said that the team is expected to arrive in Garo Hills on Tuesday.

“After completing the exercise, the team will be holding a series of meetings with the Ministers and senior government officials to discuss on their findings,” the Deputy Chief Minister said adding that the delegation will submit its report to the Centre.

“The financial assistance to the State will be decided by the Centre after studying the report,” Prof Laloo said.

Earlier, the State government sought financial assistance of around Rs.1,550 crore for restoring property damaged by recent flood and landslides in the Garo Hills.

Official sources revealed that the team would comprise of officers from different central ministries like Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Water Resources, Power, Road Transport and Highways, Rural Development, Finance, Health among others.
