SHILLONG: Taking strong cognizance to the alleged nexus of politicians with militants to influence the voters in the last Assembly elections, Meghalaya Peoples Human Rights Council (MPHRC) has slammed politicians who managed to manipulate and restrict the exercise of human rights and fundamental freedom that are relevant to the electoral process.

“Such manipulation by the politicians involved amounts to suppression and violation of the provisions contained in the United Nations Declaration of Principles for International Election Observation,” the MPHRC said.

It also urged the Government to take immediate steps to counter the impunity which has prevailed and to bring the alleged perpetrators to justice regardless of their rank or position.
