SHILLONG: A high-level team of officials of the NCC Directorate, NER, called on Chief Minister Mukul Sangma Thursday to brief him about the future expansion plans of the National Cadet Corps in the State.
Additional Director General, NCC, NER, Major General S.P.S. Kohli apprised the Chief Minister about the outstanding performance and contribution of the cadets from Meghalaya at National-level competitions.
The NCC team also informed the Chief Minister about the approval from the Union Ministry of Defence for raising NCC battalions at Tura and Jowai. The Chief Minister, on his part, assured all possible help and support for establishing the two NCC units at the earliest.
During the discussion, Sangma appreciated the requirement of permanent training infrastructure for the cadets to impart basic military training and gave directions for location of suitable land and provision for financial resources.
The Chief Minister also gave directions for holding a State Advisory Committee Meeting under his guidance to monitor better co-ordination between the State Government and the NCC Directorate, NER.
Maj.Gen. Kohli assured the Chief Minister that the highest standard of training would be provided to the vibrant and energetic cadets of Meghalaya and expressed his gratitude to the Chief Minister and the Government of Meghalaya for their continued support and guidance. Principal Secretary, Education, P.K. Srivastava, Group Commander, Shillong, Brig. B.C. Sharma and Director, Higher and Technical Education, C.P. Gotmare, were among others present at the meeting.
