SHILLONG: Former Chief Minister SC Marak on Thursday said that there should be a through inquiry by a neutral body to look into all cases of politician-militant nexus so as to clear the air of suspicion and mistrust.
In line with the demand of the Opposition to probe the issue of militant-politician nexus either by CBI or NIA, Marak told reporters, “All the 60 MLAs can be brought under the inquiry and the probe can be handed over to a neutral body”.
According to Marak, it is advisable to have a neutral body to probe the allegations of nexus between the politicians and militants, but the decision in this regard is best left to the Government.
Asked about his stand on the case related to Deborah Marak, who is his niece, the former Chief Minister said that he did not want to make any comments on the issue as currently it is a matter of the court. He only said that police machinery was competent enough to probe the case related to Deborah.
To a question, the veteran Congress leader said that it was up to the Chief Minister to decide whether he should drop Deborah or not.
Marak admitted that he was in the dark about the charge sheet filed against Deborah as he came to know it only from the newspapers.
“I feel that the matter should have been discussed in the CLP or with the party leaders which would have ensured the involvement of all.
To a query on whether the AICC leaders will discuss the charge-sheet issue of Deborah in the meeting to be held e on Friday, Marak said that anyone can raise it during the meeting.
