NONGSTOIN: The District magistrate, West Khasi Hills has imposed section 144 of the CrPC against illegal transport of coal, timber and charcoal.

District magistrate, S. Kharlyngdoh observed that those with vested interests were violating the NGT order banning transportation of coal. Adding to the problem of the officials trying to restrict this illegal activity was the non-cooperation of the truckers who usually cover the body of the vehicle with tarpaulin thus concealing the goods being carried.

To check the violation of the NGT order in any way, the District Magistrate has prohibited truckers from covering the body of the vehicles. Trucks travelling along the Nongstoin, Shillong, Mawkyrwat routes have also been directed to do so before 8 PM.

The District Magistrate also said that police officers on duty shall ensure that no loaded trucks cross the tri-junction on both side of at Nonbah bridge after 8 PM.
