Guwahati: In a major breakthrough Suzena Begum who is wanted in Burdwan blast case under investigation of the NIA, was arrested by a joint team of NIA, Assam Police and CRPF from the Inter State Bus Terminus at the outskirt of Guwahati city on Thursday night.
She is wife of Sahanur Alam alas ‘Doctor’, a key accused and another most wanted person in the same
case. Suzena Begum was wanted in SoU P.S. Case No. 1/14 U/S 120 (b)/121 (a)/122/14212223 IPC R/W 10/13/16/18 (b)/20 UAP Act.
She is now in police custody, according to a senior Assam Police official.
Earlier, sleuths from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) searched the residence of Sahanur Alam,
at Chatala village in Sorbhog in western Assam’s Barpeta district on three occasions and seized many in-criminating documents, foreign currency etc. The NIA has sealed al the bank account in the name of Sahanur.
Both Sahanur and Suzena had fled their village a week after October 2 Burdwan blast. The couple were suspected to have links with Jamatul Mujahedeen Bangladesh (JMB) and were instru-mental in facilitating hawala payment for JMB modules in West Bengal.
The NIA personnel focused the search on Sahanur’s and his wife’s room today, which had been under locked since the couple had left the house about a week after Burdwan blast October 2 last.
A source informed that some incriminating docu-ments and foreign currency had been recovered from the room, though no official confirmation was forth-coming in this regard.
Known as ‘doctor’ in the area for offering dental problems remedies, Sahanur and his wife had left the house, purportedly to visit his in-laws. He, is, however not a qualified dentist. He had created sensation in the village during Eid festival this year when he had brought a group of people and forced some locals to offer Eid namaz a day earlier.
Assam police is on the lookout for another five persons in addition to Sahanur for alleged link with
Jamatul Mujahedeen Bang-ladesh (JMB). Assam police had already arrested 11 persons for alleged JMB links all of whom are now in judicial custody.
