SHILLONG: CID has registered a case against self-styled C-in-C of GNLA Sohan Shira for issuing threat to police and magistrates in Garo Hills.

The threat by GNLA was issued on November 5 after the Police, a day before announced a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh each to anyone to provide information on several most wanted GNLA leaders.

Following the police move, the GNLA announced a cash reward of Rs 20 lakh for assassinating the Deputy Commissioners, the Chief Judicial Magistrates, the SPs, the ASPs and the DSPs working in Garo Hills, through a post uploaded on social networking site Facebook.

Meghalaya DGP PJP Hanaman told reporters that a case was registered by the CID and the investigation was on.

The case registered was under various provisions of Section 506 of IPC which mentions about criminal intimidation, Information Technology Act and Unlawful Activities of Prevention Act among others.

The case is also against deterring public servants from performing their duties. The GNLA had also announced a cash reward of Rs 15 lakh for any person providing information to the outfit on police personnel after Meghalaya police announced Rs 10 lakh to provide information on senior GNLA cadres.

“This is not the first warning, but the fate of your lives lies at your hands. Whoever dares to do so will face the same fate like that of late Josbina Sangma of Chokpot who had dared to be a police informer leading to the arrest and killing of our armies,” GNLA commander-in-chief Sohan D Shira said in a statement on Wednesday last.
