SHILLONG: North East was once again neglected during the Cabinet expansion by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday.

Out of the eight states of the Northeastern region including Sikkim, the current representation of two cabinet ministers (Sarbananda Sonowal and Kiren Rijiju) is from Assam and Arunachal Pradesh respectively.

Tura MP and NPP leader Purno A. Sangma and NPF leader Neiphiu Rio (MP from Nagaland), both of whom are supporting the NDA government, are yet to find place in the Modi Cabinet.

Prior to the formation of the NDA Government, Sangma had met Modi and extended his support to the BJP-led Government. There were expectations from Nagaland that Rio will be inducted in the ministry, but in vain.

After the formation of the NDA Government, Sangma had said that he would take up any assignment that comes his way from the Prime Minister, but the same is yet to materialize.
