Bezbarooa’s 150th birth anniv observed in city

SHILLONG: Shillong Mukul Sangha, a branch of Asom Sahitya Sabha, observed the 150th birth anniversary of Lakshminath Bezbarooa on November 9 on the Assam Club premises through a day-long programme.

In the morning president of the Sangha hoisted the Assam Sahitya Sabha flag followed by ‘Siro Senehi Mor Bhasa Jojnon i’, while the open session was held from 2.30pm in the Assam Club auditorium.

Noted writer, novelist and journalist, Mainee Mahanta, elucidated the multifarious genius Rasaraj Bezbarooa in her enlightened speech as the chief guest of the session.

The session started with Swaraswati Vandana and Borgeet by Jutika Goswami Medhi followed by floral tribute to the portrait of Bezbarooa .

The main attraction of the session was the performance of the Jatio Sangeet ‘O Mur Aponar Desh’, a Bezbarooa composition, in eight languages – Assamese, Khasi, Garo, Hajong, Bengali, Nepali, English and Hindi by the students of Laban Assamese Girl’s Higher Secondary School in traditional costumes.

A souvenir ‘O Mur Aponar Desh’ was released by the chief guest.

Songs composed by Bezbarooa were presented by Jutika Medhi, Kalpana Das, Mallika Haloi, Daisy Das, Jyotirupa Gogoi, Sanjima Ojah and Dipankar Barua.

Few self-composed poems and Bezbarooa’s compositions were recited by Dr. Utpal Kr. Hazarika, Sanjima Ojah and Binu Hazarika.

Noted social activist and senior citizen, Dhyan Sarma and Capt. Biren Borgohain, reviewed Bezbarooa’s life with their few stimulant words in the session. The meeting ended with a presidential remark and vote of thanks from the working president Dr U.K. Hazarika.
