Businessman shot dead by ultras in Majuli island

Guwahati: A business-man was shot dead by suspected militants belong-ing to the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) at Kamalabari town in Majuli river island of Assam on Friday early morning.
Police informed that the businessman, Shivaji Pra-sad, a brick kiln owner, was called out of his residence at around 6 A.M. in the morning by two motor-cycle borne youth and fired upon him from close range.
The injured business-man who received at least three bullet injuries, died whole being shifted to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital.
The incident occurred close to Kamala-bari police station in the river isle known for its rich cultural traditions and natural beauty.
Close on the heels of the incident, police picked up a surrendered ULFA militant Banshidhar Sonowal and seized his motor-cycle bearing no registration plate. He was arrested from Sonari chapori area of the river island about an hour after the shoot-out incident at Kamalabari.
Police suspect that the surrendered ULFA militant was someway involved in the killing of the business-man.Police has launched a manhunt in the island to nab the ULFA men involved in the killing the businessman.
The river island located in bosom of the mighty Brahmaputra River has been a strong base of the ULFA militants who take advan-tage of difficulty of policing the entire river island where road communication is a major problem.
The island can be accessed by boats from many directions by the ultras by dodging the police.
