Ri Bhoi Synjuk seeks KHADC’s intervention

NONGPOH: Peeved over the necessity of frequent renewal of land dulir (certificate) and agricultural land pattas, farmers under the banner of Seng Nongrep Synrop Lang Ri-Bhoi District (SNSLRBD) on Monday demanded cancellation of such renewal of land documents by office of Syiem of Hima under the jurisdiction of Ri Bhoi District.

The decision to demand cancellation of renewal of land documents was taken at a general meeting held here at Pahamrioh. The meeting was organized by the SNSLRBD.

The meeting was attended by the Rangbah Shnong of several villages including 20 mile, Jojwa, Killing, and Umdu, in addition to the chief organizing secretary of FKJGP, North Khasi Hills District, L. Lyngdoh and president of SNSLRBD, K. Suting.

Speaking to the reporters after the meeting, SNSLRBD president K. Suting informed that a resolution had been adopted to place a demand before the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) to intervene on the matter and also to take immediate initiative for cancellation of the order for renewal of land pattas.

“The District Council should direct the Syiem of the Hima, Syiem Raid, to stop their practice of renewal of land documents annually as it has adversely affected the farmers,” Suting said.

He also stated that during the meeting the farmers had lamented the adamant attitude of the State Government in fulfilling the demands of the farmers under the Synjuk for providing compensation to the farmers against the loss of the agricultural products due to attacks by wild elephants and natural calamities.
