PWD commits to improve Itanagar road condition within March next

Itanagar: An upgra-dation, improvement and maintenance works of capital complex roads have already been taken up in various areas of Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Doimukh in Arunachal Pradesh.

Out of total capital road networks of above 300 kms excluding National High-ways, during 2014-15 the state PWD is taking up 23.19 kms of cement concrete road, 23.76 kms of paved bituminous surface road and 124 kms of normal maintenances which are targeted to be completed by March 2015, official sources said on Monday.

In total 171 kms of road length will be maintained during this year of which 46.95 kms will be renewal of surface with designed concrete and bituminous paved road.

The normal routine maintenance of roads of 26.90 kms out of targeted 124 kms had been achieved as on date and the balance works will be completed by the end of December 2014.

Similarly, bituminous surfacing of road with paver machine of 4.70 kms out of target 23.76 kms have already been completed also.

Re-carpeting with paver machine in Nirjuli township areas have been completed. However, carpeting works at Itanagar, Naharlagun and Doimukh areas are in progress, official sources informed. The balance works of carpeting are targeted to be completed by end of December 2014.

The ground preparation works for execution of cement concrete paved road are going on in full swing and laying of concrete will be started by first week of December 2014 and to com-plete by March 2015 next.

The rigid pavement is a design road, a purely mechanized based work which will have life span of above 50 years. This rich quality road is being taken up in state for the first time.

The state government has decided to take up design concrete in phase wise manners. This year 23.19 kms total length of rigid pavement road has been considered.

As renewal works i.e reigid and flexible pavement shall be executed with heavy T&P, the department is encountering lots of problem in regard of acquiring required minimum road width of 7 mtr.

All concerned depart-ments, municipal board members and public are earnestly requested to needful supports and ex-tend hands in clearing/shifting of public utility like, electrical/telephone poles, water supply/sewage/cable lines, fencing/walls and hoardings from the right of way (ROW) to enable preparation of sub-grade of road for smooth and timely completion of project by March 2015.

Beside above, the bituminous surfacing work with paver on Papu Nallah -Jully – Itanagar road (12 kms) and the maintenance works of Itanagar-Jote road (18 kms) are also going in full swing which will also be completed by December 2015 end.

The two lane re-carpeting of approach road of Yupia hq office and NIT (2 kms) had already been completed, sources in-formed. (UNI)
