SHILLONG: In a surprise crackdown, the city police on Wednesday picked up 46 students, including five girls, from Ward’s Lake and other parts of the city after they were found drinking inside the Lake campus and also for indecent behaviour.

Shockingly, among those some were school students and they were found drinking in their school uniforms, a senior police official said.

Police swung into action after it received a complaint, he said adding that similar drives would carried out shortly in Lady Hydari Park and in Police Bazar.

Police also picked up a few staff of the Lake in this connection.

Later, all were taken to Shillong Civil Hospital for medical checkup.

Later, East Khasi Hills SP M Kharkrang issued a stern warning to public to refrain from such illegal activities in public places even as he said that the act by such people has put the city in a very bad light for the visitors especially tourists coming from outside.
