SHILLONG: In the back drop of the police charge- sheet against Cabinet Minister Deborah Marak, criminalization of politics will dominate the six- day winter session of the State Assembly starting from Friday.

The Opposition political parties have prepared a joint strategy to put the State Government on the mat on several issues.

The NPP spokesperson James Sangma on Thursday said that apart from the issue of charge-sheet of Deborah, the larger picture of criminalization of politics would be raised by the Opposition.

Ever since the charge-sheet of Deborah was filed, the demand of the Opposition to have a thorough probe into politician militant nexus became louder.

The minister was charge sheeted by police for hatching a criminal conspiracy with the GNLA in order to win the last assembly elections.

The earlier demand of the Opposition before the Government and Meghalaya Governor to order an NIA or CBI probe into alleged politician-militant nexus has failed to yield any result.

Beyond grilling the Government on the particular case of Deborah, the Opposition wanted the Government also to look into other corruption cases involving higher ups which are yet to be charge sheeted.

Slow pace of development in the state is another cause of concern of the Opposition.

“We will also raise the issue of lack of overall governance and the ministers remaining out of stations for months,” he said.

The recent notification of MBOSE regarding the Khasi language would also be raised by the Opposition.

The session would conclude on November 28.

No question hour : The opening day of the session will not have any Question Hour which will deny the Opposition to raise many burning issues.
