Bajengdoba MLA’s inaction draws severe condemnation

TURA: The PWD’s failure to repair roads and bridges, which were damaged during the devastating floods in Garo Hills on September 22, has resulted in inconveniences to the villagers in North Garo Hills District.

The villagers have been facing undue hardships in the aftermath of one of the worst floods to hit Garo Hills in a decade with many losing their homes and plantation plots.

Adding to their misery is the failure of the PWD to carry out repairs on roads and bridges that were damaged which has forced in various government sanctioned project under various schemes to be stalled.

One such project under MGNREGS for the construction of a culvert along Bajengdoba Line A’ding-Jangrapara PWD Road has remained a non-starter due to the prevailing situation, the local people informed.

“Funds for construction of the culvert have already been sanctioned. However, due to damage to the road and a bridge which is yet to be repaired we are compelled to wait it out as necessary construction materials like cement and iron rods cannot be brought in,” they complained.

The inaction of the local MLA with regard to their sufferings has also irked the villagers as well. “The local MLA has not done anything to improve the situation. We have lost all hope in him,” secretary of Aruakgre Village Committee, Paul Marak, said.
