SHILLONG: Urban Affairs minister Ampareen Lyngdoh has said that 48 dwelling units in the housing project at Mondoltilla, West Garo Hills has been completed and occupied.
Responding to a question by John Leslee Sangma (Ind) during the question hour, Lyngdoh said that the housing project at Mondoltilla is a part of the proposed construction of 456 dwelling units at Tura under Integrated Housing and Slum Development programme funded by Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation
Reacting to another query about the disconnection of electricity by MeECL from the entire colony in the month of April, Lyngdoh informed that the lights were disconnected due to an outstanding electricity bill amounting to Rs 1307823.
Raising a question, John Leslee Sangma however said that no bills were collected from the colony since last two years.
When asked why an amount of Rs 500 is deducted every month from the salary of the beneficiaries of the schemes who are working as sweepers in Tura Municipal Board, Lyngdoh said that the Government wants to send a message that nothing is for free.
Admitting that Rs 500 is contributed by the beneficiaries every month, she said that the contributions are made by the beneficiaries as per the norms of the Union Government for such project .
When Saleng Sangma (Ind) inquired if the beneficiaries are from the State or outside the State, Lyngdoh said that the beneficiaries were identified after long verification and the beneficiaries are Indians.
Asked about the water scarcity in the complex, the Minister admitted that the PHE pipe connection has been provided but water is not available at present. However, occupants are using water from a ringwell available at the compound for various purposes.
