NONGSTOIN: Concerned over the absence of a BDO at Mairang C&RD Block in West Khasi Hills, the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Nongkhlaw Circle has called for immediate intervention of the State Government to appoint the concerned official.

The post has been lying vacant for four months after the Mawthadraishan BDO went on leave.

Stressing on the urgency of the matter, the KSU said that the local people were facing hardship while pursuing various official works at the C&RD Block office due to the absence of a full-fledged BDO resulting in delay in several developmental initiatives in the area.

Currently, Agriculture officer, B. Kharsyntiew, has been handling additional charge of the Block Office.

“Her dual charge is not helping the cause since no financial power has been assigned to her,” the KSU said.

The KSU has also approached the Deputy Commissioner of the district in this regard.
