Kohima: Following an appeal made by Nagaland Governor P B Acharya, the Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) has temporarily suspended its proposed boycott of the Statehood Day celebration in four districts of Nagaland.
ENSF took the decision following an appeal by the Nagaland Governor and after a meeting held at Raj Bhavan here on Friday, ENSF president Shahsha L Menhahu and general secretary Honang M Jes-suhu said in a statement on Sunday. Nagaland will celebrate 51st Statehood Day coinciding with the Hornbill Festival on Monday.
The statement said the decision was made consi-dering the appeal made by the Governor and in the larger interest of Nagas to honour PM Narendra Modi’s visit to the state.
ENSF acknowledged the concern expressed by the Governor that the eastern areas since the time of P Shilu Ao, first Chief Minister of Nagaland, needed more attention.
The ENSF has also welcomed the Gover-nor’s decision to tour the four interiors districts of Tuen-sang, Mon, Longleng and Kiphire. ENSF said it was demanding “nothing less or more than the agreement made between the state Go-vernment and the ENSF on 26 November 2013.”(PTI)
