NONGPOH: Taking stern action against non-tribals who were operating their business and other establishment without obtaining valid trading license, the Executive Committee of the KHADC through Trade Department on Wednesday conducted a thorough checking of trading license at Byrnihat to Khanapara areas in Ri Bhoi district.

The Enforcement police of the KHADC led by Enforcement Inspector (EI) H. Syiemlieh along with other officer started the eviction drive against those who were functioning without trading license in the district from Tuesday and Wednesday.

During the course of checking, over 19 shops were sealed by the officer due to non available of a valid trading license. Hundreds of business establishments and shops were also seen closing down their shutters as soon as they received information about the checking that prevented the Enforcement officials in taking stern action against those business establishments.

Speaking to The Shillong Times, EI and Ri Bhoi In-Charge Syiemlieh said that, it is the first time in over 20 years that the KHADC through the trade department has taken this action for checking those non-tribals who were running their business without valid trading license.

“Though over hundreds of illegal shop vendors escaped and closed down their shutters that had prevented the official from taking stern action against them, this is not the end and the department will still continue on its mission to check on trading license and for sure, those who had escaped will be taken into account”, Syiemlieh said.

However, speaking to this reporter, KHADC E.M and in-charge Trade and Enforcement, Latiplang Kharkongngor, said that the executive committee of the District Council had launched strong checking on those business establishments run by non-tribal without valid trading license throughout the state and recently started the same in Ri Bhoi District after witnessing several establishments were functioning without obtaining a valid trade licence.

He also informed that the KHADC will continue with its mission on checking of trading license.

Meanwhile, Hima Mylliem Myntri K. Langstieh and Raid Marwet Pa’iem K. Syiem, lauded the effort of the District Council and said that the representative of Hima and Raid will gave their cooperation and would join KHADC in future checking of trading license.
