Chennai:  After going out of the top-eight competition, India slipped further as team lost to host Canada 1-2 in the play off for positions 9-16 in the World Squash Federation (WSF) world women’s team squash championship at the Niagara-on-the-lake venue.
A communique from Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI) here said it was expected to be a tough contest but a flicker of hope came when Anaka Alankamony rallied to defeat Danielle Letourneau in the opening match. It was left to senior pro Joshna Chinappa to turn the tables then, but despite putting up a valiant fight, clawing back from two games down, the Chennai girl failed in the deciding fifth game against Samantha Cornett. Level on tie scores, the burden was on newcomer Sachika Ingale to win the tie. But Nikki Todd ensured that it only a dream, winning quite effortlessly. (pti)
