Tura: A florist from West Bengal doing business in South Garo Hills has been abducted at gunpoint by armed men from near the Bangladesh border in Rogara area on Friday night.

This is the second abduction in Rogara in less than two weeks. An engineer of the NBCC company working to install flood lighting along the border fencing was kidnapped to Bangladesh by armed criminal gangs. He was released only after allegedly paying ransom.

On Friday evening at around 6:45 PM unidentified armed men barged into the home of a lady, Maisilda D Shira at Dambuk Aga village which is close to the international border and 12 kms away from Rongara.

The men who were carrying pistols reportedly came in search of the florist, Ranjit Modok who hails from Dinhata Jaragir in Cooch Behar district in West Bengal.

He was watching a show on television at Shira’s house when the armed men came calling.

The victim use to run a small flower nursery farm at Dambuk Aga doing brisk business of selling flowers.

Interestingly, although the abduction took place on Friday the matter was reported to police only on Sunday by the villagers.

Police are worried that the delay may have given an opportunity for the kidnappers to take their victim across the border as was the case with the NBCC engineer, A K Srivastava.

In the case of the engineer too police were informed over a day later by which time the victim was already a prisoner of the gang in a Bangladesh border village.
