SHILLONG: The small town of Jowai is facing  huge traffic problems as the town has not expanded but the  quantum of vehicles has increased tremendously.

Speaking over the matter, West Jaintia Hills SP Herbert Lyngdoh  said that the stretch near the  market remains clogged since there is no alternate ways.

It may be mentioned that the resuming of coal supply  also adds to the woes of the people as trucks are once again seen carrying coal and it often leads to traffic jams.

Reacting to a query, SP said that repairing works were going on in 4th mile, Bypass and one more location and this was the reason for the huge traffic jams in the town but now he says that the situation has improved to a certain extent.

The road through Jowai is also used by Assam bound vehicles.

The Jowai town has around 40 traffic police personnel.
