Shillong Games kicks off

SHILLONG: The Shillong Games 2014 finally kicked off on Monday at Ground 3, Polo Grounds with an inaugural ceremony and two womens football matches. Wahingdoh SC triumphed 7-0 over Laitkor SC while Kharang got one better of Lumpyngad with a late goal.

Earlier, Wahingdoh SC scored seven goals against Laitkor in what turned out to be a one-sided affair. Three Wahingdoh players scored twice while Ephisha Thangkiew scored a goal in the 26th minute. Pynhun Shullet (1 & 16), Danish Lyngdoh (19 & 48), and Aidaris Kharmalki (30 & 44) were the main stars of the match, scoring two goals each.

The inaugural match was attended by chief guest G. E. Lyngdoh, District Sports Officer, East Khasi Hills, Shillong who earlier declared the commencement of the Shillong Games 2014 in the presence of R. A. Lyngdoh, Chairman, Women’s Football Committee besides council members of the association.

In the second match of the day, Kharang were able to score a late 51st minute goal throgh I. Warlarpih to seal a 1-0 result against Lumpyngad, who actually appeared to be the more dominant side until conceding the lead. Today’s football matches will continue with the girls as Nongthymmai take on Lawsohtun at 2:30pm at Polo Grounds.
