Mock drill, awareness on disaster management held in West Khasi Hills

NONGSTOIN: The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), West Khasi Hills, in collaboration with the NSS unit of Nongstoin College organized a three-day intensive awareness programme on disaster management and mock drill on Cyclone preparedness at Nongrangoi village from December 8- 10 as part of the special campaign programme by the NSS volunteers for the cyclone affected areas of the district.
The programme was attended by village disaster management teams, women’s groups, youth organizations, eco-clubs, NSS volunteers, NCC volunteers and teachers and students from Nongstoin College.
Prior to the drill, training was imparted to all the participants on disaster management, disaster concepts, roles and responsibilities of village disaster management teams, first aid responder, search and rescue operations and Cyclone mitigation measures.
A film on Dos and Don’ts in cases of earthquakes and cyclones was shown to the participants.
The resource persons included staff of the Fire and Emergency Services, Nongstoin, Medical team from Community Health Centre, Nongstoin, P. Dkhar, Programme Officer, NSS Unit, Nongstoin College, S. Myrthong, and ADPO Revenue and Disaster Management, Nongstoin, Jonathan Mawthoh.
