SHILLONG: The 11th MEGHPEDICON, a two- day long Annual Pediatric Conference of Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP), Meghalaya State Branch concluded on Saturday.
The inaugural function was held at Nazareth Hospital on Friday and it was graced by cabinet minister, Ampareen Lyngdoh.
The oration was delivered by Dr. Martin Bitzan from Montreal Children Hospital, Canada and the inaugural function was attended by a host of dignitaries including doctors and directors of different hospitals of the city.
To commemorate the 11th year of the local branch of IAP, the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP), Meghalaya State Branch also organized a Basic Life Support (BLS), and Save a Life workshop for health care providers & lay persons in the Conference Hall of Nazareth Hospital.
The health care providers including doctors, nurses, and paramedical workers from different hospitals of the city attended the BLS workshop in the morning. In the afternoon, the program was dedicated for the lay persons such as school teachers, home guards, fire guards, members of Seng Samla of Upper Shillong and people from different walks of life.
All together, 80 persons were trained in the Basic Life Support workshop and IAP BLS certificates were awarded to the participants. The program was conducted by Dr Arif Ahmad, National convenor of the IAP BLS program from Hyderabad.
Other instructors were Dr. Rashna Dass Hazarika from Guwahati and Dr Saurabh G. Duwara from Shillong. The participants were provided with Basic Life Support (BLS) manuals & hands-on training on how to perform basic resuscitation if they witness a sudden collapse and a subsequently unresponsive victim.
