Traffic restriction

In view of the huge rush in different commercial areas of the city ahead of the Christmas festival, the Shillong Traffic Police (STP) has decided to restrict the entry of trucks into the city from 9 AM to 9 PM from December 18 to 24.The restriction would also apply on trucks coming from Nongstoin and Mawsynram. However, trucks carrying essential items would be exempted from the restriction.

Poetry reading

The Seng Samla Jaiaw Laitdom will organize the 2nd reading of Soso Tham’s poems on his death anniversary on December 18. The event to be held Jaiaw Laitdom Hall from 1 pm will be organized under the theme “We honour our heroes”.

Street play

The NSS unit of Seng Khasi College on Tuesday organised a street play on “Dignity of Labour” in Mawlai wherein the NSS volunteers performed skit to encourage people to be proud of the work they do irrespective of the wages. On the occasion, the members of the Red Ribbon Club of the College also acted out a play to make people aware of the ways through which one can contract HIV/AIDS.

Cleaning drive

The Dorbar Shnong, Lamavilla will organize a cleaning drive on December 20 from 7.30 am.

Awareness programme

The NSS unit of Umshyrpi College organized a one-day counseling and awareness programme on the role of NSS in conducting special camps at Kyrdemkulai in Ri Bhoi on Monday. During the programme, NSS volunteers threw light on the importance of blood donation which was followed by awareness on the health implications of alcohol, drugs and HIV/Aids. The volunteers also distributed clothes at Bethany Society on Monday.
