Agartala: Tripura Pra-desh Congress Committee (TPCC) on Thursday demanded CBI interro-gation of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar in multi-crore Saradha scam for his alleged involvement in promotion of the company in the state.
Addressing the media here, Leader of the Opposition Sudip Roy Barman alleged that along with Saradha group Mr Sarkar also promoted two other Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs) — Rose Valley and Waris Finance, which are accused of being involved in financial scam and looting hundred crores of rupees.
Mr Barman stated that Mr Sarkar had attended the anniversary function of Saradha chief Sudipta Sen’s newspaper Sakalbela Agar-tala edition and appreciated Saradha group openly, which has encouraged the investors. He added that West Bengal minister Madan Mitra was initially detained by CBI as he had attended the function organised by Saradha group.
Mr Sarkar should also be arrested as he had attended the functions of both the NBFCs, which had collected huge amount of liquid cash from the poor people and promised them of hefty returns, he pointed out.
“We have sought an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to apprise him of the role of Left Front government in Tripura in encouraging NBFCs and also to press for our demand to bring Tripura in the ambit of Saradha scam investigation by the CBI, as Saradha had a huge business in the state,” Mr Barman said.
He, however, stated that Tripura government had sent 37 NBFC cases to the CBI but the state government intentionally accounted only few lakhs of rupees liabilities against Saradha, Rose Valley and Waris Finance suppressing the actual amount of money they collected from the market.”In two occasions Tripura government had sent 37 cases of NBFC last year but the cases related to all the three companies were presented with minimum liabilities to CBI though they had the highest liabilities in the state, just to evade CBI and safeguard their inter-est,” Mr Barman added.
Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress also demon-strated in front of the office of the CBI demanding to start investigation of Saradha scam in Tripura. They complained that as many as 91 NBFCs had looted over Rs 2000 crore in Tripura in past five years but the state government did not do anything.(UNI)
