GSWSS Phase III

SHILLONG: Deputy Chief Minister Prof RC Laloo has indicated that the PHE department is likely to seek an extension from the State Government to complete the Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme (GSWSS) Phase III.

“We will try to complete the project within the stipulated time – March, 2015. If needed I will seek an extension to complete project,” Prof Laloo, who is also the incharge of PHE department, informed here on Thursday.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that the department will take up the project on a war footing once laying of the distribution pipes is complete.

“We are unable to lay the pipes in some localities of the city as the Dorbar Shnong of those areas refused to give necessary permission for the purpose. But I was informed by the officials recently that the department could convince those Dorbar Shnong for approval,” he said.

Stating that he would inspect the project site in the first part of next year, the Deputy Chief Minister said that the department was trying to augment water supply and also adopting measures to reduce wastage of water under the Phase III.

Besides the areas which are already covered under the scheme in Phase I and Phase II, Prof Laloo said that the Government also included some new areas like Pynthorumkhrah to be covered under the Phase III.
