City-based poet’s second collection of poems released

SHILLONG: Noted city-based poet Aldous Mawlong released his second collection of poems ‘Collage’ during the Shillong Book Fair held in the city recently, in the presence of poet laureate Desmond L Kharmawphlang and a host of well-wishers and friends.
His first collection ‘April Fairy’ had been released at New Delhi in 1991. Aldous is currently giving final touches to an English movie script entitled ‘Sunny’ based in Shillong and its outskirts.
Also in the pipeline are short stories and a collection of quotes besides a mosaic of photographs taken by the poet.
Born in Shillong, Aldous Mawlong studied first in St. Peter’s and later joined St. Edmund’s from where he completed his ICSE. He graduated from St. Anthony’s College, Shillong. Aldous engaged himself in numerous jobs like running a gift shop and doubling as an announcer with All India Radio, Shillong. He joined the North East India Commission or Relief & Development (NEICORD) as a Relief Officer and finally joined the Civil Services in 1987 and is now holding the post of Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya.
Aldous also completed his MBA from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom.
His hobbies include organizing beauty pageants, fashion shows and musical gigs besides of course writing, sketching, photography and music.
He also holds an A-grade in Western Music with All India Radio.
Married to the enigmatic Rosette, they have four children – Aimesha, Torisa, Iladeiti and Hamelari – who all feature in his latest collection of poems.
The Shillong Book Fair had been organised by Sahaki Society in collaboration with the Directorate of Arts and Culture which had book stalls, panel discussions and book launches that attracted a large crowd.
