Nagaland NVCO observing National Consumers’ Day
Kohima:The Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) along with the rest of the country is observing ‘National Consumer Day’ on Wednesday by raising their voices with a slogan ‘consumers are to be protected’ and the slogan is directed at price-rise, illegal taxation, adulteration, sub-standard goods and inefficient services. In a release here, NVCO president Kezhokhoto Savi informed that the National Consumer Day is celebrated on December 24 after the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 received the assent of the President of India on December 24, 1986. The Act is considered to be a historic milestone in the consumer movement in the country. The observation of this Day provides an opportunity for highlighting the importance of the consumer movement and the need to make every consumer more aware of their rights and responsibilities. ‘The Consumer Protection Act, 1986 is indeed a very unique and highly progressive piece of social welfare legislation and is acclaimed as the magna carta of Indian consumers with aims to provide better and all round protection to consumers,’ he stated. ‘It provides effective safeguards to the consumers against different types of exploitation such as defective goods, unsatisfactory services and unfair trade practices.’ he added.The NVCO further extended Christmas and New Year wishes to every consumer and citizen. It asked consumers not to compromise in the festive season when it came to price-rise, defective goods and deficient services. (UNI)
CM greets people on occasion of Christmas
Kohima:Chief Minister T R Zeliang on Wednesday extended Christmas greetings to the people of Nagaland.In a message on the eve of Christmas, Mr Zeliang said ‘the heavenly hosts of angels’ had sang out their first Christmas greetings to people of the earth with these words ‘Glory to God in the highest; And on earth peace; Goodwill towards men’.The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee in a message wished that the Christmas celebration will be an occasion for true believers to reflect and renew the pledge to abide by the teachings of Jesus Christ that offered hope and salvation for the mankind.Naga Students Federation general secretary Easther Rhakho also wished the people on the occasion. ABSU condemns killings
Guwahati: All Bodo Students Union has strongly condemned the barbaric killing on innocent adivasi people. “The killing can never be a part of any movement neither the bloodshed; terrorism destroys the human recourse and humanity. ABSU and Bodo Society as a whole will never support the killing and violence neither the society wish any right in exchange of life and Blood,” the ABSU said in a statement. “We appeal all section of people to be restrained in such a situation of human crisis. Government should not play with the life of innocent people, we know, for lackadaisical attitude of the government in controlling the terrorism in proper way and time they are getting freehand to go on with their agenda of human assassination. We appeal the union government to intervene in controlling the situation within short period of time and bring back normalcy in the region,” the statement added.
