Rajasthan ministers receive threatening emails
Jaipur:Some of the Ministers in Rajasthan have received threatening message on their official email IDs, DGP Omendra Bharadwaj said on Friday. “We are examining the credibility of the email id and its sender who gave threats in the message saying ‘You yourself understand what we will do’. We are investigating the matter and have collected inputs which are being shared with intelligence agencies,” DGP Omendra Bharadwaj told PTI. He said that there is no specific target and also type of attack mentioned in the message which was sent on Monday purportedly by terrorists group Indian Mujahideen. The DGP said that in view of alert sounded by the Central agencies recently, security arrangements were already tight. “Alarming signals were coming for some time hence security arrangements were already tight,” he said. ATS is investigating the matter of threatening Emails. “The matter is being investigated and there is no need to panic,” he said. The DGP did not disclose the names of the ministers who received the emails. Meanwhile, Home Minister Gulabchand Kataria, who is in Udaipur, said that the DGP was aware of all the facts and that those behind the emails would be identified. “Security arrangements in the state are proper and police is on alert,” he told reporters in Udaipur.(PTI)
Girl set on fire for opposing harassment succumbs to injuries
Varanasi:A 19-year-old girl, who was set on fire allegedly by three youths after she opposed to their harassment in Lallapura area, succumbed to her injuries in the wee hours on Friday at a government hospital here, police said. The girl’s mother had alleged that the three youths entered their house on December 18 and set her daughter on fire by pouring kerosene when she opposed the trio’s teasing and harassment, they said. The three used to stalk the girl, a class XII student, on her way to school, police quoted the mother as saying. She succumbed to her injuries in the wee hours while being treated at the government hospital here, they said. An FIR was registered against the trio under sections 354 and 326 of the IPC at Sigra police station on the same day. The three accused were arrested by police and were sent to jail five days ago. Two girls beat up youths for harassing them in bus
Muzaffarnagar:Two girls beat up two youths when they allegedly harassed them in a bus in Kandhla town of Shamli district, police said on Friday. The youths identified as Kalpit Kumar (25) and Samrat (22) were yesterday beaten up by the girls and handed over to police saying the duo used to harass them on their way to college, SHO Pankaj Verma said. Last month, two sisters from Haryana’s Rohtak had hogged limelight for thrashing youths in a bus for allegedly molesting them. In another incident, two men were booked for attempting to rape two sisters when they were alone in their house at Unn town in Shamli district, police said. “The youths- Roopak and Mohit, entered the girls’ house one month ago and tried to rape them but the victims thwarted the attempt.(PTI)
Tamil Nadu pays homage to tsunami victims
Chennai:People along Tamil Nadu’s coastal districts affected by the 2004 tsunami paid tearful homage to the thousands who were swallowed by the killer wave on this day 10 years ago. Over 8,000 people were killed in Tamil Nadu by the giant wave in 2004. They offered milk and flowers at the sea for the dead. Fishermen in many villages stayed away from fishing as a mark of respect to the victims. In many coastal districts, shops were closed as a mark of respect to those who were killed by the giant wave”Rallies and prayers were held. Fishermen did not go for fishing in Nagapattinam district,” V.Kumaravelu, an activist, told IANS from Nagapattinam. “While people have rebuilt their lives, many did get the central government’s relief amount. The tsunami houses are in a bad condition and many do not even have water connection. This is the major problem now for the people,” he said.(IANS)
60-year-old man shot at by bike borne assailants
Pratapgarh (UP):A 60-year-old man was shot at allegedly by two unidentified youths in Rampur Adharganj village in Ranipur area here, police said today. The incident took place yesterday when two bike borne youths opened fire at Bholanath Gaur while he was going somewhere in his jeep, they said. He was rushed to the hospital where his condition is said to be stable. Police has lodged an FIR in this connection and is trying to identify the attackers. (PTI)
