Woman sets herself, four children on fire

Lucknow:A woman set herself and her four children on fire in Bulandshahr, apparently due to a financial crisis, police said on Saturday.The tragedy took place in Kuryawali village Friday when the woman had an altercation with her vegetable vendor husband for not earning enough to sustain such a big family. She then doused herself and her four children with kerosene and immolated herself. All five, including four children died on the spot.  The incident happened when the husband was not present at the residence. Neighbours told police that the couple used to quarrel quite often on account of monetary constraints. District police chief Anant Deo Tiwari said prima facie the incident appeared to be the outcome of a financial crisis and domestic strife but added that they were questioning the husband to know more.  The bodies have been sent for post-mortem.(IANS)

Wing Commander’s family looted on Yamuna Expressway

Mathura:Family of an Air Force officer was allegedly looted by some armed men on Yamuna Expressway when they were on their way to Agra from Delhi, police said on Saturday. The incident took place yesterday when Air Force Wing Commander Praveen Upadhyay was travelling to Agra in his car with his family and friends through Yamuna Expressway. As Upadhyay stopped the car on the expressway at Naujheel area, three youths came on a motorbike and allegedly looted some cash, jewellery and other valuables from women seating in the car at gun point. Meanwhile, Upper Police Superintendent (Rural) Shagun Gautam told that a case has been lodged and a search is on for all the absconding accused. (PTI)

10-year-old girl raped by minor in Dehradun

Dehradun:A 10-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a minor in Vasant Vihar area of the city, police said on Saturday. The incident took place on Thursday night, when the victim had gone to a nearby shop and the 16-year-old accused took her to a secluded spot on some pretext and raped her, they said. Following a complaint made by her parents yesterday, the police lodged a case in this connection against the accused, who is a student of Class X. Yesterday, after the medical examination confirmed rape, the accused was detained and produced before a local court, which shifted him to a juvenile home, police said. (PTI)

Govt hospitals fully equipped to deal with swine flu: Nadda

New Delhi:A day after a 51-year-old woman died due to swine flu in Ghaziabad, Health Minister J P Nadda on Saturday said there was no need to panic as government hospitals were fully equipped to deal with the situation. “She (the deceased) went from one private hospital to another. But I would like to say that our health department and our government hospitals are capable of treating this influenza. “There is no need to panic. They should go to the nearest hospital,” Nadda told reporters. The 51-year-old victim from Ghaziabad succumbed to the flu at a private hospital in Delhi, becoming the first casualty of the HINI virus in NCR this year.(PTI)
