TURA: In view of several requests made by the residents of A’konggre locality, the Additioanl Principal Chief Conservator of Forest and Chairman of the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board, CP Marak along with other staff of Forest and Environment Departments made a visit to the catchment areas of Tura Peak on Saturday to get a first hand information of the problems being faced by the people of the locality and its surrounding areas.
Following the visit the official assured the people that the matter would be looked into and promised all help to ensure that no encroachment takes place at catchment areas which is the life line of the people of entire Tura town.
It may be mentioned that after the withdrawal of the Forest Home Guards following their termination from services the catchment areas were left completely unguarded as the result of which a lot of illegal felling of trees took place in the area.
