Bomb scare in Gondwana Express; GRP team defuses
Bhopal: After defusing nine pyro bombs in Gondwana Express on its way to Hazrat Nizamuddin from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh GRP on Monday said they have some leads into the case. “No arrests have been made but we have got some leads and are working on it. The recovery of explosives might be part of a large conspiracy. But right now, it is too early to say anything about it. We can’t draw any conclusions at this juncture. Our quick investigation and response team (QIRT) is on the job,” Director General of Government Railway Police, Madhya Pradesh, Mathlisharan Gupt told PTI on Monday. He said that some suspects are being questioned. On Sunday, explosives, batteries, copper wires connected with an electronic device were recovered from berth number 14 in sleeper coach-8 of Gondwana Express at 3.20 PM at Sihora, 20 minutes after it chugged off from Jabalpur to Hazrat Nizamuddin. The explosives were defused near a lake at Sihora. After the train left Sihora, someone passed on information to Sagar GRP that two more bombs were still in the train.The train was stopped at Malikedhi station and its S-7, 8 and 9 coaches were searched rigorously from 8.45 PM to 11.45 PM, but nothing was found. The bombs were possibly planted to trigger low-intensity explosions and fire in the train. Later, the train left for its destination.(PTI)
Firing exchanges rock IB
Jammu:Pakistani Rangers and BSF troops exchanged fire along the International Border in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, a BSF officer said on Monday. “Pakistani Rangers fired few small mortar bombs and small arms firing on Border out Posts along the IB in (Hiranagar belt of) Samba sector late last night after we fired few rounds on detecting suspected movement close to the IB”, the officer said. The firing exchanges lasted for a brief period, he said, adding there was no loss of life or injury to anyone in the exchanges. “There was no firing on civilian areas”, he said. The mortar shells were targeted on Karol Krishna and Londi BoPs along the IB in Hiranagar belt of Kathua district around 9.40 PM last night. The firing exchanges came after a few days of lull along the IB in Kathua and Samba districts of Jammu and Kashmir. Firing exchanges and ceasefire by Pakistan Rangers were witnessed along the IB in Kathua district on January 6. Five persons, including four jawans and a woman, died in the Pakistan firing and shelling along Indo-Pak border in Jammu and Kashmir in January. Over 10,000 people were also displaced due to the firing. (PTI)
Centre seeks report after woman’s complaint
Berhampur (Odisha):Centre has sought a report from Odisha government on the allegation made by a woman that she delivered a stillborn baby after being kicked by a police officer at a village in Ganjam district. Ministry of Home Affairs has asked the home secretary, Odisha to intimate the facts about the incident and the action taken against police officer concerned, said senior BJP leader Ram Chandra Panda, who had written to the Centre about the reported incident. Panda released a copy of the Centre’s letter to the media here on Sunday. A former deputy speaker of Odisha assembly, Panda had written letters to the Centre and National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) about the incident which purportedly took place at Patrapur under Jarada police station limits in Ganjam district over two months ago. Panda claimed that Mami Adhikari (26) had delivered a stillborn baby at MKCG Medical College Hospital here on November 17, 2014 as she fell down after being allegedly kicked by the inspector-in-charge (IIC) of Jarada police station. The IIC had gone to her house on October 25, 2014 in search of her husband Kunja Adhikari in connection with an old case.(PTI)
Three Naxals killed in Jharkhand; bodies recovered
Ranchi:Three Naxals were on Monday killed in an encounter with security forces in Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand. According to preliminary information reaching the headquarters here, the special operation was being led by paramilitary CRPF in the jungles of Bukar village under Chauparan police station area when a gun battle between the two sides ensued. “Three Naxal bodies have been recovered till now. It is very rare that the forces recover bodies during or after an encounter. Further details are awaited as communication links are weak,” a senior security force official said. The official said the encounter is still on in the area and few arms like a bolt-action rifle, an INSAS and an SLR rifle along with explosives have been recovered till now. Two special squads of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been rushed to the encounter spot, the official added. (PTI)
