Fraud accused dies in accident

JOWAI: One person died on the spot after the vehicle he was driving was hit head-on by a truck at Khliehtyrshi village in West Jaintia Hills on Tuesday.
The deceased, identified as Rupak Deb, who was an employee of Cash Management System (CMS), Infosystem Pvt. Ltd was accused of misappropriating funds to the tune of over Rs 22 lakh along with another employee, Leki Siangshai.
A complaint in this regard was lodged with the Jowai Police on Tuesday. Ironically, Deb died in an accident the same day. Deb, driving a Maruti van, was coming to Jowai from Shillong.
Sources said that both Siangshai and Deb were engaged in withdrawing cash from the company’s bank account to feed various ATMs in Jowai and Khliehriat. Sources also alleged that the misappropriation of funds might have been taking place since 2010.
“The anomaly came to fore after the company conducted an audit recently and detected that Rs. 22, 31, 000 were misused,” sources claimed.
