Guwahati: Union Minister Rajyavardhan Singh on Monday said a Film and Television Institute of Technology (FTII) would be set up in the Northeastern region.
However, the location of the proposed FTII has not yet been decided, the Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting told reporters.
As All India Radio (AIR) has the widest reach, the minister said community radio would be promoted in the border areas with financial and technical help to set them up.
Recognising that the importance of social media for dissemination of information in real time is very vital, Singh said the state-run Press Information Bureau (PIB) will be equipped with smart devices.
Stating that e-books will be prepared for easy access to government policies and schemes, he said each ministry would provide live updates in the social media.
Singh said the three channels — Arun Prabha, Asmi and MAMINA (Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Assam) — would be set up and programmes would be produced in local languages.
Permanent building of the channels would be set up in Mizoram, the minister said. (PTI)
