Public hearing on fate of Warsan Lyngdoh area

NONGSTOIN: Following the directive of the High Court of Meghalaya on August 24 last, the West Khasi Hills District Administration conducted a public hearing related to the inclusion of 18 villages of Warsan Lyngdoh area in South West Khasi Hills, at Pyndenumjarain village on Thursday.
During the hearing, an overwhelming number of people demanded inclusion of Warsan Lyngdoh in West Khasi Hills District for the betterment of the public while only a few people wanted to be associated with South West Khasi Hills.
At the end of the hearing, West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner S Kharlyngdoh announced that the District Administration would send the minutes of the public hearing to the Government for a final decision on the matter.

Health Dept workers protest against non-payment of dues

NONGPOH: Peeved by non-payment of salaries for the last five months, over 100 casual workers of the Ri Bhoi District Health Department staged a protest at the Ri Bhoi District Medical & Health Officer’s complex on Wednesday paralyzing the delivery of health services at Nongpoh Civil Hospital and other CHCs and PHCs in the district.
Besides demanding the immediate release of their salaries, the casual workers also sought the regularization of their services at the earliest.
Meanwhile, the Ri Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF), Central Body has issued a month’s deadline to the state government to clear the salaries of the casual workers besides making them regular employees failing which the federation will resort to agitation.

Miscreants attack RBYF members

NONGPOH: Unidentified miscreants assaulted members of the Ri Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF) at Umlaper village on Wednesday evening.
The attack is being seen as retaliation to the RBYF’s drive against illicit sale of liquor in Ri Bhoi.
The members of RBYF, Sonidan circle were attacked when they were on their way to the village from Pamlatar where they conducted an awareness programme-cum-drive against illicit sale of liquor and also destroyed a huge consignment of country-made liquor and IMLF seized at Umtrai village.
The RBYF central body has taken strong note of the incident and demanded prompt action on the part of the Police to bring the miscreants to book.

Miscreants assault workers, torch camp

NONGSTOIN: A group of miscreants numbering 20-25 allegedly attacked a temporary camp of BSC C&C JV, which is undertaking the construction of Nongstoin- Mawthabah road, assaulted the workers and torched the camp.
Four employees were seriously injured while six others sustained minor injuries.
The miscreants brandished guns, daggers and sticks during the attack.
The company has filed an FIR at Mawkyrwat PS in this connection.

JOWAI: The India Water Week, 2015 under the theme, ‘Water Management for Sustainable Development’ was observed here at the District Auditorium Library on Wednesday.
The observation of the India Water Week is to make the people aware that water is life and it is the duty of every citizens to use it judiciously by way of conservation and prevention from any kind of pollutions besides water management system either scientifically or traditionally.
