SHILLONG: AICC general secretary in-charge of North East, V Narayanasamy, on Tuesday labeled the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre as anti- farmer and anti- tribal.
Speaking to media persons here, Narayanasamy claimed that the government was ignoring the interests of the farmers and was giving away fertile land at throwaway prices for other activities.
Alleging that the Government was slowly withdrawing subsidy on fertilizers, he said that the Finance Minister had issued a statement that it was going to bring urea prices under the market mechanism, and adding that farmers have been made to suffer more as they were not getting adequate prices for the produce.
“This NDA Government is not protecting the interest of the farmers,” he said while asserting that the Congress was planning comprehensive agitations against the policies of the NDA government.
Stating that that the Tribal Right’s Act of giving the land to the tribal was passed by the Parliament during the UPA regime, Narayanasamy said, “They are trying to dilute it (Act) by bringing an amendment saying that the tribal lands can be acquired by the government. So they are taking away the rights of the tribals.”
Castigating the NDA Government for not appointing chairperson of eight national banks, Narayanasamy said that during the UPA regime, chairpersons used to be appointed three months prior to the post falling vacant.
Narayanasamy also alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had been telling in every platform that his government believed in minimum government and maximum governance, but the Centre was doing exactly the opposite.
The AICC leader also condemned the scrapping of the decades-old Planning Commission by the union government.
Centre slammed for forced conversions
The AICC general secretary in charge of Meghalaya also slammed the NDA government for its failure to stop forced conversions of people by RSS and other hardcore right wing groups.
“Secularism is the key word in the Constitution but the BJP led government at the Centre is trying to totally subvert it by using hard-line Hindu groups like the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh to openly convert people from various religions to Hinduism,” he said.
Stated that secular credentials are the foundation of the Indian constitution, Narayanasamy said, “The Prime Minister talks about development agenda but he is silent on the communal agenda.”
Narayanasamy also termed as alarming the idea of the BJP trying to dominate by making India a Hindu nation.
