Kejriwal files nomination from New Delhi constituency
New Delhi:Filing her nomination papers from East Delhi’s Krishna Nagar, BJP chief ministerial candidate Kiran Bedi on Wednesday said that her responsibility has increased after being fielded from the party’s “traditional” seat.
Bedi, who was accompanied by Union Minister Harsh Vardhan, Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay, Vijay Goel and Mahesh Giri, reached the District Electoral Officer’s office at 12.05 PM. “BJP does a lot of work in Krishna Nagar, which is the result of Dr Harshan Vardhan’s hard work,” she told reporters here after filing her nomination papers.
The former IPS officer said no error has been found in her nomination papers after the first examination. “We have passed with first class,” she said. Asked if fielding her from party’s traditional seat – Krishna Nagar has increased her responsibility, she said, “Yes, I am a gardener. I am also a part owner.” Earlier in the day, Bedi started her roadshow around 9.30 AM from Lajpat Rai Chowk of the area. The former IPS officer also met tea and newspaper vendors in Krishna Nagar before taking out her roadshow and enquired about the kind of issues they were facing.
“Vardhan has given all his life to this area. This area (Krishna Nagar) will get two – both a cabinet minister and a CM,” Bedi told reporters here. Vardhan said that he is very happy that people have helped him, served him and blessed him are giving the same love and affection to Bedi also. “They were deprived of a CM last year but they will be privileged again to have a CM from this constituency itself,” he said. Asked if Bedi was fielded from Krishna Nagar as it is a safe seat, he said, “I think every seat is a safe seat for BJP. Ultimately, she had to contest from one seat. I don’t see any reason or logic in it being a safe seat. After all, we are in politics so we will choose the best seat, what is wrong in that?.
AAP Files nomination:AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday filed his nomination papers from the New Delhi Assembly constituency, raising the pitch in the high-octane electoral battle for the upcoming Assembly elections.
The former Delhi Chief Minister had put off the scheduled filing of his nomination yesterday after he failed to reach the election office on time. Kejriwal today reached the election office at around 11.00 AM amid slogan shouting by BJP supporters in favour of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Later speaking to reporters, he said, “Our fight is not against any person or political party.
It’s against corruption and price rise. “Last time the people of Delhi had gives us a huge mandate. I hope the people give us the full mandate for running the government for five years,” he said. In the last Assembly elections, the activist-turned- politician had defeated the Congress’ three-time chief minister Sheila Dikshit in the New Delhi seat by a margin of around 22,000 votes.
Earlier, the AAP supremo slammed BJP’s chief ministerial candidate Kiran Bedi over reports of her garlanding a statue of Lala Lajpat Rai by a BJP scarf. “At least spare freedom fighters. Don’t saffronise them. A freedom fighter does not belong to any party. He belongs to the country. We should not divide him into BJP, or Congress or this and that party,” he said.
Responding to the charges of the disgruntled candidates of Mehrauli and Mundka, who were replaced by AAP on Wednesday, Kejriwal said the action was taken after “truth” was found in the complaints against them. “Complaints about them have come to the party’s internal Lokpal. They found truth to those complaints and cancelled the tickets…I don’t tolerate these kind of things,” he said. (PTI)
