Oscar-winning actress Anne Hathaway will star in George Bra-nt’s famous play ‘Grounded’, a one woman-show about a fighter pilot whose pregna-ncy forces her out of the cockpit. It will be staged at New York’s famed Public Theatre this spring, reported Entertainment Weekly.
The play, to be directed by Julie Taymor of ‘The Lion King’ fame, will begin performances on April 7 for a strictly limited engagement through May 17.
The play tells the story of an unnamed ace pilot who, upon learning of an unexpected pregnancy, is reassigned to piloting military drones from the ground in Las Vegas, where she struggles to balance hunting terrorists by day and family life at night.
Brant’s monologue, which offers topical commentary on drone use and moral responsibility, won the 2012 Smith Prize for Political Theatre, as well as the Fringe First award at the 2013 Edinburgh Festival.
The Public’s production of ‘Grounded’ will feature scenic design by Riccardo Hernandez, lighting design by Christopher Akerlind, sound design by Will Pickens, projection design by Peter Nigrini, and music/soundscapes by Oscar-winner Elliot Goldenthal. (PTI)
