Kohima:The security has been beefed up throughout Nagaland since last few days to thwart any untoward incident from outside elements, as the state going to celebrate the Republic Day on Monday, for which preparations have already been completed.
Official sources said that there was no any threat from any underground outfit of Nagaland, but due to cross border infiltration and presence of many suspected Bangladeshi immigrants have created threat. Sources said that the main accuses of Dimapur Railway Station twin blast on October 2, 2004, in which 26 people were killed and over 100 injured, were found to be suspected Bangladeshi immigrants, for which the police has kept strict vigil in all vulnerable places where miscreants can strike. Besides the police, Indian Reserved battalions, Nagaland Armed Police, CRPF and BSF personnel are also engaged in the security in every parts of the state.
Moreover, the Assam Rifles Battalions posted in various places in the state are also on regular patrolling duty with ‘bomb detecting dogs’ in the district headquarters of the state.
The main function of the 66th Republic Day will be held at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat Plaza in Kohima, where Nagaland Governor P. B. Acharya will unfurl the national tricolour and take the Republic Day salute and address the people.
The celebration will witness March Past by 12 contingents accompanied by 3 band parties. There will also be entertainment programme followed by exhibition cum sale by the Agri and Allied sectors and Para Military Forces. The Republic Day celebration will conclude with the evening programme and the beating of retreat by the Brass Pipe Bands.
Marking the Republic Day celebration, the Governor Mr. Acharya will host ‘At Home’ along with Governor’s Award ceremony for distinction in the field of Art, Music and Literature. The function will be held at 12 noon at the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan in Kohima today Meanwhile, The Naga-land Department of Home has announced that on the occasion of the Republic Day tomorrow, the VIPs will unfurl the National Flag at the respective Head-quarters.
Official sources said Nagaland Assembly Spea-ker Chotisuh Sazo will unfurl the national tricolour at Phek, while Minister Kipili Sangtam at Mokokchung, Minister Dr. Neikiesalie Nicky Kire at Wokha, Minister Nuklutoshi at Peren, Parliamentary Secre-taries Yitachu at Tuensang, Vikho Yhoshu at Dimapur and Dr. Longrineken at Zunheboto and Namri Bch-ang at the Sub-Divisional Headquarters at Tenning in Peen district.
