SHILLONG: The indefinite hunger strike of the Association of Qualified Candidates, Grade-IV-2011, East Khasi Hills, entered the second day on Wednesday with three agitators being shifted to Shillong Civil Hospital following deterioration of their health.
Paskha Lyngdoh Thabah, general secretary of the Association, said that the health of several agitators had worsened but they were refusing to get admitted to the hospital.
“We will continue our hunger strike till the Government gives an assurance that the validity of the merit list would be extended,” she asserted.
UDP legislator Jemino Mawthoh was the only one who came to meet the agitators on Wednesday.
Incidentally, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal on Wednesday termed the indefinite hunger strike as unwarranted.
“There is no justification in calling the agitation when the validity of the merit list expires on January 31,” Goyal said.
Asked if the validity of the merit list would be extended, Goyal declined to comment saying that the decision has to be taken at a higher level.
