Demonstration against govt’s apathy towards residents of border areas
NONGPOH: Miffed at the apathy of the State government towards the plight of residents of Umsder in the disputed Block-II area of Meghalaya, the KSU North Khasi Hills Unit has decided to launch their agitation with a sit-in demonstration at the entrance to the Deputy Commissioner’s Office at Nongpoh on Friday from 9 am to 4 pm.
The decision was taken at a meeting held after the end of the four-day deadline to the government to take concrete action to address the isues of the villagers in Block-II, particularly the demand for 50 per cent share of the broomstick production made by Assam Forest officials.
The meeting held at Umsder was attended by the KSU leaders and the Rangbah Shnong and residents of all villages falling under the disputed Block-II.
Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong Raid Nongtung president B Sohtun informed that all the Rangbah Shnong had decided to support the KSU agitation as they were fed up of the State government’s apathy towards their problems.
